My 58 Uncles: Film Screening and Discussion with Chinese Documentary Filmmaker Min Zhou

My 58 Uncles: Film Screening and Discussion with Chinese Documentary Filmmaker Min Zhou In-person

Please note the updated room change to Hayden Library, room 135.

Join the ASU Library and Community-Driven Archives Initiative for a film screening and discussion with Chinese documentary filmmaker, Min Zhou.

Zhou’s film “My 58 Uncles'' tells the stories of Chinese military cadets who trained in the United States during World War II. Her research led her to the ASU Library archives, which holds history from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, formerly located on Thunderbird Field No. 1, at what is today 59th Avenue and Greenway Road in Glendale in the West Valley. In the early 1940s, over 800 young Chinese men came to Thunderbird Field to train and learn to fly. Learn about the stories of these students, their families and their incredible journeys.

Min Zhou is an award-winning journalist and filmmaker in the San Francisco Bay Area. Min has been focused on telling Chinese American immigrants' stories and bringing long-forgotten history to light. She has produced eight short and two feature documentary films and won national and international awards in the past seven years.

Zhou will be joined by a talented production team of Chinese filmmakers, photographers and authors including Xingzhe Liu, He Chang and Ann Lee to share their findings.
