Indigenous Open Mic Poetry Night with Kinsale Drake In-person
Calling all Creative Writers! This September 2023, the Labriola National American Indian Data Center, in partnership with The Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, is opening the semester with our annual Indigenous Open Mic Poetry Night. Our host for this semester’s Open Mic is renowned poet Kinsale Drake (Diné). She is a poet, playwright, and performer. Her work has appeared in many publications, including Teen Vogue and Time Magazine. She recently graduated from Yale University, where she received the J. Edgar Meeker Prize, the Academy of American Poets College Prize, and the Young Native Playwrights Award. She is also the winner of the 2022 Joy Harjo Poetry Prize. Currently, Kinsale edits Changing Wxman Collective, directs NDN Girls Book Club, and is working on a debut manuscript of poetry.
We are excited to have Kinsale host our Open Mic. Come out to hear from her and Indigenous poets! There will be open slots for reading and we encourage community members to share their work
