Large Language Models for Qualitative Research

Large Language Models for Qualitative Research Online

This session explores fundamentals of LLMs and how they can enhance qualitative research. Participants will learn how LLMs function, how they interpret and generate language, and why they are well-suited for tasks like thematic coding, content analysis, and discourse interpretation. Drawing on growing body of recent academic literature on LLMs in qualitative research, we will examine how these models can streamline time-consuming processes and unlock new possibilities, while also addressing their limitations and challenges. While designed with social science and humanities researchers in mind, anyone interested in applying LLMs to qualitative work is very welcome. No technical background required, just a curiosity about LLMs and their effective use for qualitative research.
